Arizona State University wants to make sure freshmen go on to graduate, and research has shown that students who do well in entry-level math are more likely to get their bachelor's degrees.
So ASU soon will run a pilot project to prime incoming freshmen for success in math.
The university is partnering with New York-based Knewton, a technology company that delivers personalized education online by analyzing a student's strengths and weaknesses and delivering optimum ways for that student to learn.
Just as Amazon and Netflix deduce and suggest book and movie titles customers might like, Knewton software provides more work in areas where a student is weak.
