If you want to start saving for your child's college education, you have about three more weeks to buy a Florida Prepaid plan at this year's prices.

But the cost of a four-year university plan may be out of your budget — it's $45,367 for a newborn. Still, there are cheaper plans available for those who want to send their children to state colleges, formerly known as community colleges.

Florida Prepaid has overhauled the program so that all mandatory tuition and fees are included in the price. Payments can be made in installments, at $856 a month for five years, or $282 a month until the child goes to college.
