Ryan Busch Interviews Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, For Today's Campus Magazine from Today's Campus Magazine on Vimeo.
Dr. Michael Crow is the 16th president of Arizona State University. July 1 marks his10th year in that office. In all regards, his last decade has been an interesting one to watch. He was named by TIME magazine as one of the top 10 university presidents and has promoted his model for ASU's growth under the banner of "The New American University".
Our first attempt at an interview was cut short because he was feeling under the weather, but this was well worth the wait. We spent nearly an hour together talking about the shift he's inspired at ASU to move the public university away from bureaucracy and toward enterprise. To me, this is a bold statement coming from any leader of a public institution, but even more so given ASU's prominence as the largest public university in the United States. The past 10 years haven't been without their challenges, but Crow has stayed true to his vision. Regardless of how you view him, higher education can learn a lot about leadership, risk, and opportunity from studying his work.
It was an honor to meet him and have the opportunity to spend so much time with him. Today's Campus would also like to thank the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Dean and University Vice Provost Christopher Callahan generously coordinated the filming of this interview. The school has an amazing program and Brian Synder and his team were consummate professionals with their production of this video.
